Requirements: University degree (B.A.) with commerce/business administration focus or equivalent in work experience is required.
Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or MBA preferred.
Exceptional financial analytical ability skills preferably developed in a retail environment.
Critical thinking, can see the ‘big picture’ in a complex business environment
Comfort and confident in dealing with senior leadership Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present complex information to non-technical business partners, including senior management throughout planning process (e.g., annual budget, quarterly forecast, and as required)
Time management and self-management skills.
Excellent analytical skills, with attention to detail.
High proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint and experience in building Excel Macros is an asset.
Proficiency in ERP Oracle, Power BI, and SQL are strong assets.
Ability to interpret large amounts of financial and non-financial data and summarize it to present meaningful information to various levels of management
Think strategically and able to synthesizes complex data, and develop creative and innovative solutions.
5 to 7 years experience as a finance role, with a focus in budgeting and planning experience along with broad based operational finance experience
Experience in retail, particularly multiple-location/national and multi-channel retail is an asset.
Description: The Manager FP&A, Store Operations is responsible for financial planning and reporting, supporting the Store Operations teams. Reporting to the Director FP&A (Corporate and Real Estate), the Manager will be involved in budget, forecast (in-month and long range), and maintain the consolidated financial P&L of the Store segment, including each store P&L in the retail network. The Manager will also be responsible for analyzing KPIs, developing enhanced analysis, and providing insight to drive improved financial and business performance. To do this, the Manager will work closely with the store operations, other FP&A teams, and leadership team to understand and evaluate key business trends and to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial and non-financial data and forecasts, including recommendations on process to track and report on financial performance of key strategic initiatives. The Manager will also manage and mentor an analyst, providing guidance and coaching on financial reporting, modelling, and analysis in support of company objectives. The successful candidate will need to have a finance background, possess strong analytical and technical skills. The candidate will also need to have strong communication skills to build relationship at various levels of the organization and the confidence to participate in executive level discussion. In addition, the candidate will be a self-starter and continuously identifies and recommends all necessary actions to improve the financial performance and efficiency of the business.
Build and maintain budget and forecasts models for store sales and margin, store labour and store operating expenses, as well as for individual store to ensure proper budget upload to Oracle
Work with the business to identify/validate key business assumptions and incorporate them into the monthly forecasts, annual budget, and outlook
Liaise with various departments, such as but not limited to, store labour, facilities, cross function FP&A teams, Inventory Control, Sales Audit, Accounting, IT and telecom, Real Estate, etc.
Support the development of strategy and the 5-year long term plan model
Create and review analysis and reports of financial and operating data
Oversee and support store operations including communicating deadlines and expectations with business partners, works with individual business partner to determine proper month end accruals, if required, and update forecast
Consolidated and Individual Store P&L – support Regional Vice President/District Manager/GM.
Store Operations – All store labour spends, Facilities, and retail initiatives/projects.
Field support – Asset Protection/Loss Prevention, Constructions, etc.
Support the preparation of new stores, renovations, and relocation proforma P&L (e.g., gather capital investment requirement and incremental sales, margin, and operating expense assumptions to develop a revised store P&L)
Ensures alignment with the organizational strategic directions and financial operating plan.
Lead and/or participate in process and system improvement initiatives, special projects, and ad-hoc analysis.
Review month-end variance analysis and commentaries vs budget and forecasts
Develops actionable management reporting to provide insights into performance, variances, drivers, and key business trends.
Review the analysis of weekly/monthly results and issuing required reports and reconciliations (e.g., labour and OpEx summary)
Mentor and develop a financial analyst.
Ensure high employee engagement at every level through effective motivation, coaching, training, and development of associates on the team.
