Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Secondary School.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, serving or waitering in a restaurant.
Cash handling experience, basic math skills and knowledge of how to us a Point-of-Sale system required.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Description: The Server provides professional, friendly and welcoming services by taking orders quickly and accurately with excellent customer service. The incumbent is the face of restaurant and responsible for our customers’ experience while they are a guest at our Conference Centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Services

Attend to customers upon entrance to the restaurant.
Present menus, serve and help customers select food/beverages.
Serve patrons with food and beverages in a positive and friendly manner.
Provide information to help food and beverage selections.
Present ordered choices in a prompt and efficient manner.
Maintain dining ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude.
Prepare room for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, and safety policies.
Assist patrons select food and beverages by suggesting courses, explaining the chef’s specialties, and answering food preparation questions.
Transmit orders to kitchen by recording patrons’ choices and identifying patrons’ special dietary needs and special requests.
Keep kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression.
Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons’ choices from bar and kitchen and delivering accompaniments and condiments from service bars.
Respond to additional patron requirements by inquiring of needs and observing dining process.
Maintain table setting by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude
Memorize the food menu as well as any nightly specials.
Conclude dining experience by acknowledging choice of restaurant and inviting patrons to return.
Obtain revenues by totaling charges, issuing bills, accepting payments, delivering bills and payments to host, and returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

This is a permanent par-time position based on 15 hours per week.
Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 25 pounds (11.3398 kgs.).
This job requires walking, carrying, sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently and working in a standing position for long periods of time.
Normal hours of work – hours and work schedule will vary as operational requirements and follows a work rotation schedule and will include days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
