Requirements: Assist your manager and colleagues in a workshop with municipal staff to review flood depth and inundation models under a range of climate scenarios, and identify “pinch points” in municipal infrastructure, or opportunities to manage stormwater in the upper reaches of the subwatershed for further assessment
Conduct an assessment of the costs to implement selected mitigation measures, and the benefits in terms of reduced flood impacts, in these areas using the Risk and Return on Investment Tool
Rank mitigation options from most to least cost-effective, and assess how the ranking varies among climate scenarios
Assist your manager, colleagues, and employees from one or more municipalities in the Lake Simcoe watershed to develop recommendations for action from the above.
Draft a final technical report and presentation outlining the results of the above.
Assist in the development and delivery of a workshop series on nature-based climate solutions, focusing on their ability to reduce impacts associated with urban flooding, urban heat, or their contribution to carbon sequestration
Description: Reporting to the Acting IWM Implementation Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting on a pilot study assessing measures to promote increased resilience to urban flooding in a priority subwatershed and assist Conservation Authority colleagues in promoting the use of nature-based solutions as a climate resilience tool.
Successful completion of a post-secondary program related to environmental science, forestry, geography, geomatics, biology, water resources or other related disciplines and at least 2 years of experience.
Experience with ArcGIS.
Experience in flood management, green infrastructure, or low impact development.
Experience with data analysis software, including R, would be an asset.
Experience in working with cross-disciplinary project teams.
Experience in flood or hydrology modelling would be considered an asset.
Ability to publicly represent the Conservation Authority and our partners in a professional manner.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
An interest in climate change resilience and watershed ecology and management.
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite products.
Valid G class driver’s license in good standing.
Hours per week: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. TBD
Rate of Pay: $24.50 to $30.63
