Description: Job Summary: The Custodian & Maintenance Worker of this child care centre is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for children, staff, and visitors. This role involves routine cleaning, general maintenance, and seasonal upkeep of both indoor and outdoor spaces. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety within the childcare facility. Key Responsibilities: • Maintain a clean and orderly childcare centre, including classrooms, washrooms, kitchen, staff room, and office(s). • Perform daily cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces. • Conduct heavy cleaning duties, including washing floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and mirrors, and emptying garbage bins. • Carry out seasonal and routine maintenance activities, including leaf pick-up, sidewalk salting, snow or debris removal, and general upkeep of outdoor areas. • Perform general maintenance on mechanical equipment and assist with kitchen equipment maintenance as needed. • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair logs. • Identify and report potential health and safety hazards to management. • Assemble furniture (e.g., shelves), toys, and classroom/playground equipment as required. • Steam clean chairs and carpets on a weekly basis. • Conduct monthly inventory of cleaning supplies, receive deliveries, and verify order accuracy. • Assist the chef with dishwashing and food delivery storage as needed. • Adhere to provided cleaning schedules. • Attend and participate in Joint Health and Safety meetings approximately every three months, if required. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. Working Conditions: • Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. • Physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects. • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the childcare centre remains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, staff, and families.
