Education and Experience Qualifications
A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, including building maintenance, construction, minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting; cleaning and maintenance procedures and equipment.
A certificate in building maintenance would be an asset.
Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, own vehicle and insurance, a copy of a current driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
Knowledge of building systems preferred.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
Description:
Job Summary
The Maintenance Worker position is responsible for performing ongoing maintenance, janitorial, repairs and miscellaneous related duties for the Jackson’s Point Conference Centre.
Key Accountabilities
Maintenance / Operations
Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facility i.e. empty all garbage receptacles, put garbage out for designated garbage day, vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, check, clean, move, arrange and dust all offices and furnishings, and replace light bulbs as necessary.
Wipe down all tables, chairs, and door handles and ‘set-up’ and take down for various programs/activities, as necessary. Clean washrooms including toilets/urinals and counter tops, floors, mirrors, polish sinks, and fixtures.
Monitor and maintain stock of regularly used items, i.e. mops, brooms, lights, supplies etc., and order/purchases as required.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Perform minor repairs such as electrical and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting, reports safety concerns and major repair issues. For example, (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets, troubleshooting flushing issues), reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor
Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
Maintain security of custodian’s room/property at all times and ensure the storage areas and supply rooms are kept neat and tidy.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawn, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up and upkeep of storage shed.
Restock washroom paper supplies, soap and hand sanitizers and distribute materials received as required.
Spot wash accessible walls, perform paint touch-ups, clean and maintain floors including strip, wax and buff floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required.
Always ensure kitchen cleanliness, clean and polish sinks and wipe down cabinets
Health and Safety
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
Monitor and report regularly any concern regarding adherence to the acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent part-time position based on 20 hours per week.
This role is for evenings and weekends.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in all entire facility and designated properties.
This job requires standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, frequent twisting, crouching, and reaching and the ability to lift/move up to 29 pounds as required.
Some travel may be required to pick up supplies (up to 5%).
Normal hours of work – Hours of work and work schedule will be determined in consultation with the supervisor. Shifts could include days, evenings and afternoons, weekdays, and weekends.
