About the Opportunity
As an integral part of the finance and accounting operation, this position is responsible for monitoring the financial health of the operation, including:
Overseeing all accounting activities and cycles: revenues/receivables/receipts, purchases/payables/payments, treasury, payroll, compliance, and related processes
Monitoring company financial direction, policies, and accounting practices
Working closely with dealership management to provide insights and feedback ensuring exceptional financial results while minimizing risk
Managing relationships with external stakeholders including lending institutions, shareholders, external accountants, and taxation authorities
Maintaining ownership of the general ledger and trial balance, including schedules and related entries ensuring system data aligns with supporting documents and external sources
Developing, maintaining, managing, and analyzing financial statements, payroll, budgets, and tax compliance
Preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting packages and managing year-end reporting processes
Championing cash management processes and systems to ensure strong liquidity
Leading internal process improvements and maintaining related documentation
Developing, motivating, and supervising accounting team members
About You
Ideal candidates will have:
Previous experience as a Controller or in progressive finance/accounting roles, preferably within an automotive or dealership setting
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent, with strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of accounting guidelines
CPA or equivalent designation is an asset but not required
Proficiency with ERP systems (such as CDK or Reynolds & Reynolds) and payroll management programs (ADP or similar)
Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
Desire to continuously develop new skills, take on challenges, and seek improvement opportunities
Experience leading and supervising team members
Strong professional communication skills (verbal and written)
Proven ability to influence change and lead projects effectively
Ability to adapt to change, meet deadlines, and maintain and improve internal controls
Strong attention to detail, organization, and strategic thinking
