Role Overview

A civil infrastructure company is seeking a Working Foreman – Underground / Pipe to lead sewer, storm, watermain, and culvert installations while actively working alongside the crew. This role requires strong technical knowledge, hands-on involvement, and proven leadership in the field.

The Working Foreman supports the Site Supervisor or Superintendent and is accountable for installation quality, daily production, safety, and crew performance.

Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Installation & Leadership

Work directly with the crew installing pipe, structures, services, and appurtenances

Perform pipe installation, connections, and related tasks as required

Lead trench operations and ensure safe installation practices

Train and mentor crew members on proper underground construction techniques

Production & Documentation

Measure and record daily installed quantities (pipe length, manholes, catchbasins, services)

Track manpower, equipment usage, and delays

Review and approve crew timesheets and report daily production to the Supervisor

Materials, Tools & Equipment

Assist with ordering pipe, fittings, granulars, concrete, and trucking

Coordinate tools, trench boxes, shoring, and equipment required for installation

Ensure equipment is inspected, maintained, and used safely

Quality, Layout & Technology

Read and interpret pipe profiles, drawings, and specifications

Use laser levels, GPS, and grade controls to maintain proper line and grade

Verify bedding, installation, and backfill meet project specifications

Safety & COR Compliance

Conduct daily tailgate/toolbox talks

Enforce trench safety, shoring, and safe work procedures

Support inspections and correct deficiencies immediately

Requirements

Civil construction experience in Canada or the United States (required)

5+ years underground utilities or pipe installation experience

Strong knowledge of sewer, storm, and watermain installation standards

Proficient with lasers, grades, and pipe layout

Comfortable working physically while leading crews

Proficient operating heavy equipment

Experience with GPS machine control and laser levels

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings

Fluent in English; Spanish is an asset

Valid Class G Licence

Topcon or similar GPS: 1 year

Heavy equipment operation: 5 years
