Credentials
1.Facility Management Diploma or certification from a recognized institution, along with progressive supervisory experience in facility operations and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2.Possession of Refrigeration Operator Class B ticket, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment, when assigned to registered arena plant facilities.
3.Certified Ice Technician preferred, with experience in both indoor arenas and outdoor portable refrigeration systems.
4.Certified Pool Operator.
5.Forklift operation certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
6.CPR-C and First Aid certification.
7.Class G Driver’s license in good standing and a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
8.Training or demonstrated experience in the safe operation and oversight of inflatable air-supported structures and large event facilities is considered an asset.
Knowledge/Skills Required
1.Demonstrated responsible experience at a supervisory level with the ability to balance the needs of staff when making decisions that are in the best interest of the Town.
2.Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal, consultative, problem-solving, analytical, and presentation skills, along with collective agreement administration.
3.Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4.Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and management, with working knowledge of both operational and capital budgets.
5.Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as energy management systems.
6.Practical working knowledge of all aspects gained through certification of pool and arena operations, equipment, and maintenance, including oversight of inflatable structures, outdoor portable refrigeration ice rinks, skating trails, and cultural event spaces.
7.Knowledge of First Aid, WHMIS, propane safety, and forklift operation.
8.Working knowledge gained through certification of refrigeration plant equipment and applicable legislation of governing bodies, including portable outdoor refrigeration systems.
9.Background knowledge in mechanical areas to troubleshoot problems across diverse facility types, including inflatable structures and specialized event spaces.
10.Ability to develop specifications and make recommendations on the purchase and implementation of new equipment, mechanical components, and event infrastructure.
11.Ability to operate all vehicles/equipment in the facilities (e.g., ice resurfacing units, edgers, snow blowers, tractors, ride-on floor scrubbers, forklifts, man lifts) and train staff on such equipment when required.
12.Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other departments, and levels of government, particularly in the context of large-scale community events.
13.A working knowledge of various trades including construction, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and energy management, with application to both permanent and temporary event facilities.
14.Knowledge of asset management in order to understand life expectancies of mechanical assets such as HVAC units, refrigeration equipment, inflatable structures, and other facility amenities and equipment, supporting the commission’s asset management program.
15.Knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings, and the ability to interpret legislation such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) regulations, and Public Health Act requirements for pools and event facilities.

Description:
Under the direction of the Manager, Facility Operations, the Supervisor, Facility Operations is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, coordination and delivery of services that support Facility Operations across various Town-owned community facilities. This portfolio includes pools, ice rinks, gymnasiums, programmable spaces, specialized sports facilities such as, inflatable air-supported structures, outdoor portable refrigerated ice rinks and outdoor skating trails, geothermal and other building energy systems within the Facility Services Division of the Parks & Facility Services Department. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective facility operations by maintaining facility cleaning standards, overseeing the operation of aquatic and pool-related equipment, geothermal systems, and managing arena and ice refrigeration systems. The position leads the implementation of operational planning and control measures, including risk management, security protocols, and emergency response plans within their portfolios.
