Job Overview
We are seeking a Substation Foreperson to join our team in Stouffville, Ontario.
Working within the Substation Division, this role will primarily supervise the construction of high-voltage substations and may include overhead and underground electrical construction projects. The successful candidate will oversee all site activities, including field supervision of internal resources, subcontractors, site engineering, and commissioning for construction and maintenance projects. In addition, the Substation Foreperson will assist the Project Management Team to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, safely, and to a high-quality standard.
Note: Candidates are considered in partnership with the local union hall in Ontario.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership on projects ranging from 5kV to 230kV.
Plan and execute construction of substations and associated sub-systems.
Direct and perform field assembly of substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, high-voltage switches, structural steel, aluminum buss, switchgear, and control buildings.
Direct and perform installation of overhead and underground electrical systems, including cable splices, terminations, and overhead linework.
Oversee civil construction including earthworks, concrete foundations, duct banks, ground grid installation, fence installation, landscaping, and finishing works.
Mentor and supervise team members while fostering good client relationships.
Provide proactive leadership to develop a positive safety culture on site.
Liaise with project team members to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections support schedule, budget, and stakeholder requirements.
Prepare permit applications for high-voltage isolations and work protection.
Perform supervisory duties associated with the “constructor” role during construction and field assignments.
Follow project management processes to maintain reports, schedules, engineering drawing reviews, specifications, records, and other documentation.
Understand and manage tools and equipment required for substation construction.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum 10 years high-voltage substation/electrical construction experience (5kV – 230kV)
Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience in the high-voltage industry
Red Seal Powerline Technician and/or Substation Electrician Certificate required
Post-secondary education in Powerline Technician or related field is an asset
Valid DZ Driver’s License required
Experience with overhead and underground distribution systems
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of OHSA, EUSA Rule Book, Utility Work Protection Code, and other safety regulations
Commitment to workplace safety
Blueprint and schematic reading skills
Exceptional problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership skills
Strong communication and customer service skills
Willingness to travel to project locations throughout Ontario
Additional Information:
Hourly rate: $64.75, subject to future increases as per union wage schedule.
