Requirements: WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Architectural or Engineering Sciences or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three (3) years related experience in building rehabilitation/renovation maintenance for a variety of buildings, involving the development of designs, plans and specifications and contract administration.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
• Satisfactory completion of a police vulnerable sector check as required under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021
• Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to residential building design, construction and maintenance related to structural, architectural and engineering disciplines.
• Knowledge of building construction and maintenance administration, including building elements and systems in a variety of buildings.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal and Provincial Building Codes, the Construction Lien Act, Municipal By-laws and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Description: ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Project Manager, Capital Delivery and Engineering, is responsible for providing technical expertise in the planning, implementation and contract management of capital improvement, renovation and rehabilitation projects; preparing various documents; inspecting and monitoring projects; preparing communications and reports; and monitoring the performance of consultants and contractors.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Acts as the Region’s lead on managing capital projects and contracts for Regional properties, as assigned.
• Obtains input and requirements from other Regional Departments and Branches for the design of the assigned Regional capital renovation projects.
• Prepares detailed estimates of project costs and participates in the preparation of the annual budget.
• Prepares project plans and schedules for approval on each project.
• Monitors performance of consultants and contractors through regular inspections of capital projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents, legislation and Regional policies.
• Participates in the public tender process for necessary consultants, contractors and other external resources for assigned capital projects.
• Sources Requests for Quotes for the services and the resources that are necessary to successfully implement assigned capital projects.
• Negotiates and recommends the approval of change orders for equipment and material substitutes; progress payments and release of holdback funds; recommends termination of contracts, if necessary.
• Monitors compliance and application of established maintenance, energy management and construction standards for Regional projects and provides recommendations to management that will enhance the overall effectiveness and cost efficiency of the day-to-day maintenance functions.
• Participates in operational reviews to ensure compliance with the technical directives.
• Assesses overall building condition and prepares reports for management to communicate deficiencies and expectations.
• Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.
• Assists with developing training materials and manuals that include processes and procedures related to the design and construction of capital projects.
• Liaises with and builds partnerships with internal department and cross-department staff and external contacts and consultants and contractors.
Hours per week:
Rate of Pay: $55.32 - $60.12
